As of Jan 1, 1999, the so-called ‘Psychotherapeutengesetz’ (Law for Psychotherapists) has been in force. Since then, anybody who wants to do therapeutic work, needs to have the official acknowledgement of their local public health department. It is therefore highly recommended that aspiring psychotherapists, who are not graduates in either medicine or psychology, take the exam of an HP (non-medical practitioner) in psychotherapy.

The courses offered teach the participants those materials that they will need to pass the exam, such as:

  1. The required psychiatric and psychotherapeutic knowledge and

  2. Help with specific themes that arise in the course of the exam preparations (since participants will have to have a knowledge of all the various kinds of mental disorders).
